🎬 WonderWhat x V&A Dundee This project has been an absolute honour to work on & help film, and this is only the beginning 🙌🏼 🌿 Founded & nurtured by the team at Bond & Coyne, @hello_wonderwhat is an online initiative to give tools and guidance to young folk choosing their future pathways & opening eyes to the breadth of possibilities within the creative industries. A careers advice platform that dives far deeper into the VAST breadth of roles that form creative pursuits, and actively validates the longevity of careers available today. 💡 When Creative Producer extraordinaire @lizzy_grrrl contacted and told us about this, fellow filmmaker @teasmartphoto & I jumped at the chance to collaborate. Having worked with Lizzy before on projects for the Wilson Art Gallery, we knew how much of a passionate advocate she is for not only the arts, but the people behind it too. 💭 V&A Dundee were the first partner we worked with on this, and the museum team members who we spoke to were incredibly giving. We captured their thoughts on getting into the creative sectors, busted myths about the financial side of their careers & most importantly, heard what they wished they’d themselves heard at 13/14. The best thing is, so many of the roles are behind the scenes, showing the diverse range of paths not typically mentioned in regular career advice sources. 🎬 Another thing we all collectively wanted to push with this, in the spirit of WonderWhat, was giving paid opportunities to local young folk to come and help throughout this production. We had three fantastic team members join us from the V&A Dundee Young People’s Collective, who assisted in any areas they were curious about, from camera operation, 1st ACing, Interviewing & more. Impact Marathons have got me feeling nostalgic 🇳🇵 They’ve been recently revisiting points in the event’s history, and it’s made me reminisce back to filming this piece to cover their first Nepal International Marathon back in 2016! Forever grateful to @njkershaw & the team for taking the chance on me back then - it was very early days into my filmmaking career, and although the prospect was scary as HECK, the warmth & support the Impact team and runners radiated helped give me the confidence to go ahead with this assignment. I had never covered an event of this caliber before then, and the prospect of filming a marathon in the mountains as a solo crew was daunting to say the least. Armed with a DSLR, Glidecam & Phantom 2 drone, I tentatively said yes, and it ended up being one of the most lifechanging experiences of my career. This was the beginning of Impact Marathon’s journey, so I wanted to do right by them. The self doubt certainly was ever present, (I’ll be honest with, it still strikes SO regularly), but Nick has a distinct talent of making people feel capable of more. Alongside on the day was the incredible @davidaltabev covering photography, and with the breadth scenic views it’s safe to say we ended up running a lot too 🤣 After looking at my phone’s pedometer, I’d ended up doing the distance of a half-marathon chasing the runners from all across the world! Having recently taken the step into full-time freelance after 6 fulfilling & growing years at a production company, it felt fitting to revisit this project, which felt like a leap for sure! If there’s something that feels out of your depth but every inch of you wants to pursue it, try and surround yourself with people who lift you up. We’re never going to be at a point we’d deem ultimately ‘ready’ for anything worth caring about, but with the right preparation it can get close, and make the most of that extra wiggle room to learn & grow in the process 🌿 Those who were there that year, see if you can spot yourselves! 🏃🏽‍♀️🏃🏽 🎵Planet Nepal by @kutumba_nepal Go check out the incredible work @impactmarathon do across the world, and their collaboration towards the UN Global Goals! 🙌🏼

Recently back from a trip to Japan that’s been years in the dreaming, feeling inspired & ready for the next chapter back home! Thinking back to last weekend at @bsc_expo 2023! Walking With Wolves 🐺 A close friend of mine has recently taken the leap to pursue his dog walking, training & boarding business full time, and manifested it into @walk_ingww Martin is an absolute lighthouse to all who know him, and over the years it’s clear he gives so much of himself to others. We journeyed through our paddle instructor qualifications together many moons ago, and he’s been a rock in my life since! Pursuing a dream should be celebrated, so I wanted take on a personal project to help create something to help show the human side to his business, and have a reference point whilst starting out. 🌲Amongst the trees🌲 One of the last personal projects to end the year, a piece I shot over at @somerford_christmas_trees to test the filming capabilities of my vintage Helios 4-22 58mm lens (which most of the shots were filmed on). Paired up with the Sony A7iii, I love the render it gives, especially on close or portrait shots! For a lens made in 1978, i’m continuously impressed by it’s distinctive look & versatility. Excited to implement it more in future projects! 📷 Somerford Keynes Christmas Trees have been a family run business for over 25 years, and it was lovely to see how many regulars there were. Having been founded & led by his father for many of those years, the torch was recently handed down to my good friend @my65roses_jagohartland to manage. It was a pleasure to see him & the team in action, and to witness the care & effort that goes into the craft. Winter Sky Wandering 🌌 Winter is undoubtedly one of the hardest seasons in my opinion, with less sunlight available, shorter days & colder nights aplenty. The Water Vole (Arvicola amphibius) Going through the archives from the summer, and i’m stoked to say I saw my first confirmed Water Vole in August! They are found throughout Britain, usually based around well vegetated banks of slow flowing rivers, ditches, dykes and lakes. They dig their burrows in steep grassy banks, which often include underwater entrances! However, with populations under real threat & their status now being endangered, it’s becominthem, so feeling very lucky on this spot. We were on our way through Bibury after a day out, and stopped by the banks of the River Coln for a closer look at the row of houses (pictured last), as they are known for being one of the filming locations for one of my favourite films, Stardust! After running down the road like Tristan in tribute, we sat by the river to see what we could spot. After some time, we chanced upon this little one wading through the water, before hopping on some well positioned reeds & triumphantly chowing down on the snacks it had foraged (one of 227 different species of vegetation it’s been recorded to eat!) Being similar in looks to the more common Brown Rat, we spent days questioning what it was, but thankfully my conservationist pal @tom.lewis1995 confirmed with the evidence, and I fist pumped at the message! IBC 2022 - pt 2 - 9th-12th September A few weeks ago, we had the absolute honour of working on a booth with the incredible team at Videndum at IBC! A part of their island of stalls, we had the opportunity to collaborate & create a greenscreen studio space using tools from their family of companies, including Manfrotto, Avenger, Rycote, Litepanels to name a few, showcasing them in a real-life scenario Once it was set in place, @dalecampbell_dop hosted a number of talks with fascinating folks from the industry, with @ratheka rocking the three-camera setup, whilst I was on vision & audio mixing (from the broadcast box I lovingly call the Jackdaw, as its huge size definitely parodies the smallest corvid!) 🐦 It was our first time at the show, and the people attending made it feel so warm. An unexpected guest on the birdfeeder this morning - looked out to see a female/juvenile Sparrowhawk (Accipiter nisus) after catching it’s prey. A visually beautiful and a fascinating character to read about. Fun fact I learned today, females are usually up to 25% larger than the males – one of the greatest size differences between the sexes in any bird species. 2 weeks ago something magic happened 🌱 I’ve been going to the Adventure Travel Film Festival since 2015. I remember arriving with my dad, bright eyed & blown away by all the stories one weekend could hold. Little did I know, this festival would become such a pivotal focus point in my journey. Years of work, lessons & stories later, I had the absolute honor of showcasing a short film that I shot and edited, in narrative collaboration with @davecorn - The 40 Mile Birthday. All filmed within a day & edited over the first lockdown, it was a documentation of Dave’s unconventional 40th birthday, in which he decided to travel 40 individual miles in a day, each one on a different form of non motorized transport. There are hundreds of fingerprints on this story, I wanted a moment to thank a few Forever grateful to Dave, for years of support, friendship & mentorship. With the opportunity to capture this film, it felt fulfilling to be able to give back. You’re a lighthouse to so many, appreciate you & thanks for making the dream feel real 🌱 Big thanks to @austinvinceofficial , who stepped in at just the right time to be a mentor & gave the confidence needed to dig deeper. Your constructive teachings made me look at the craft in a new light, will carry that the rest of my career 🌱 The room was made even more special as my Dad, Mum, Thomas & Bryony made it out to be there. Happy (belated) Solstice! Finally getting a chance to look through the photos from the past few weeks, starting up with the 21st June, where Bry & I managed to stay up all night alongside the ancient Stonehenge Stones. It was my first time doingso, so went in not knowing what to expect Throughout the whole lead up to sunrise, we were engulfed in an ominous ring-layer of fog that we had a delayed gratification when the sun came over it. Oh but when it did, all the tired energy burned away from everyone into such a special moment that all atop that hill shared. It also made it felt like a proper Tatooine sunrise! Vantagepoint 🪶 Whilst walking to the local forest through some farmland tracks, I spotted this bird overlooking the field attentively. I couldn’t identify it straight away, loved the way it was perched atop these buds, almost like the summit of a ladder After scratching our heads whilst trying to ID it after, I posted this photo to a UK Bird identification group on Facebook, and we were kindly helped to come to the consensus that it is a female Linnet! (Linaria cannabina) I was stoked to see her so healthy, as upon researching sadly Linnets are in the red band of their conservation status here in the UK. If you’re out and about though, according to the RSPB they are spotted all year round, on commons, heathland, rough ground, farmland hedges, salt marshes and in parks & gardens. They even fly together with other seedeaters, scouring the countryside for the best food! Interesting fact from the Wildlife Trusts site: “Linnets are named after their favourite food: seeds. Their common name comes from linseed, which is the seed of Flax, while their Latin name, L.cannabina, refers to Hemp” Have you seen any Linnets when out and about? I always admire how subtle yet striking the red Robin is, especially when seen during the winter. Whilst being very vocal for their size, their speed & stature means it’s always a challenge to spot at first - though once you’ve locked onto the red colouring on their chest, it’s a little easier to observe them! I think part of my fondness with them is from being brought up on the old folklore that Robins are messengers for those passed away, “when robins appear, loved ones are near”. Their curious nature certainly makes it seem like they are visiting! Although that is a big weight to put on a small bird, it’s definitely always been a comfort, especially these past few years. A humbling reminder of the impact of those who come to mind 🌱 You may spot more appear as you or those around you start gardening this spring, as they are known to keep an eye on gardeners turning the soil, in hopes of grabbing an unearthed worm or two! Serval (Leptailurus serval) Last but certainly not least on our wildlife week is the Serval! A wild cat native to various parts of Africa Not only do they have the longest legs & largest ears relative to their body of any cat, but they can seriously jump! When going after birds and insects, Servals make high vertical leaps in the air, sometimes jumping more than 9 foot straight up! They can also leap up to 12 foot horizontally from a stationary position to land on targets from afar 🛩 Seeing them jump for the food the keepers threw in with such focus & determination was incredible. The last 4 pictures in this thread though, are indeed, a mood. Malayan Tiger (Panthera tigris malayensis / Panthera tigris jacksoni) I think the thing that struck me the most about seeing a tiger up close was the sheer size - I know they’re big, but in real life it was bigger than my mind imagined it to be. Upon researching afterwards, it was a surprise to see that the Malayan Tiger is actually one of the smallest of all the subspecies! 😅 The Malayan Tiger’s striped coat serves as camouflage amongst the dense trees when it needs to blend into it’s surroundings, making it easier to hunt unnoticed. Whilst researching online, it’s also clear that they are great swimmers too, & are even known to cross rivers when they need to! Equipped with webbed paws and strong legs to help them stay afloat, they use the rivers and streams not only to travel, but also as a way to cool down. This post was meant to go out yesterday, but I felt exhausted after work & fell asleep midway through writing! Maned Wolf (Chrysocyon brachyurus) This tall boi is the tallest wild canid, and is so striking to look at! Most of it’s statute comes from it’s disproportionately long legs, which it’s believed to be down due to habitat preference. They can generally be found in open areas such as savannas, swamps, shrub forests and grasslands in South America, and the height helps them to see above tall grasses and shrubs in search of food Being an omnivore, almost 50% of it’s diet is made up of fruit & vegetation. In it’s ecosystem, the Maned Wolf even plays a big role in seed dispersal, particularly for the Loberia Fruit (a tomato like fruit also known as the Wolf Apple after their enthusiasm for it!) Loberia seeds tend to germinate more effectively after passing through a Maned Wolf’s digestive tract, so it’s a mutually beneficial cycle! This one was a bonus as it wasn’t on the course trail, however after spotting it having never seen one in real life, I couldn’t miss the opportunity! Cheetah (Acinonyx jubatus) An absolute honour to see them up close, they were one of the most impactful to photograph of the day! The world’s fastest land mammal, with an astounding acceleration that can go from zero to 60 miles an hour in only 3 seconds! The cheetah also has a long, muscular tail that has a flat shape. It acts almost like a rudder on a boat, because they use it to help control their steering and keep balance when running at speed Although they were relaxed enough to not show their agility (and preferred to relax under the tree), it left me in awe seeing the way they hold themselves with such prowess and elegance. Whilst doing today’s research, I also found out that the Cheetah’s black markings that run from the inside corners of their eyes to the edges of their mouths help reflect the glare of the sun when they are hunting during the day - built in negative-fill, how rad is that! Syrian Brown Bear (Ursus arctos syricus) The Syrian Brown Bear is the smallest subspecies of brown bear found native to the Middle East and the Caucasus mountain range. They were so fascinating to watch as they roamed in search of food, and all three we saw had such distinct personalities! Learning about them tonight, I’m realising how crucial the work of conservation is with their numbers declining, and the important work needed to help apose this. These that we met were truly ambassadors for their kind, and I hope they play a big part in their subspecies future! Also a takeaway fact that I thought was cool, they are the only bears recorded to have white claws! Corsac Foxes (Vulpes corsac) with a summer coat These were one of the most fun to capture on the day, as their size and speed proved a challenge on the reflexes! The Corsac Fox can be found in a wide area of central Asia, and is an inhabitant of steppes and semi-desert environments. Living in a nomadic way, they travel long distances to find their food. During the winter their coats become much thicker than the above to adapt to the cold, which i’d love to see in person sometime. They are one of the more social in the fox family, and that was clear whilst watching them run and play with each other! It was interesting to learn they are also excellent climbers, with hooked claws that are used for both scaling trees & also digging shallow holes in the ground See you tomorrow for the next animal from the course! Canadian Lynx (Lynx canadensis) For the next 7 days i’ll be posting the results from a Wildlife Photography Course I took recently, led by our incredible mentor for the day @lauragalbraithphotography The experience was a birthday present from my rock @mellerdramatic , and it was honestly the best gifts I could have ever imagined 🌿 First up on our wildlife week is possibly one of my favourites to capture from the trip - the Canadian Lynx. Having recently been putting in time to learn more about the efforts of rewilding our own Lynx here in the UK, it was impressive to get a glimpse into how it could be with these poised & elegant felines back in our ecosystem @lynxukofficial One thing that immediately stands out is that the paws of the Canadian Lynx are huge when compared to the rest of their body, allowing them to traverse through the deep snow more easily. In the wild, these amazing creatures must be able to travel through swampy, boggy, rocky, and snowy areas, having special adaptations to help them survive and thrive in diverse habitats. These two were instinctively shy, but had an air of playfulness when together. Also fun to know, Lynx have earned themselves the nickname "shadow of the forest”. Both the evening skies over the Adventure Travel Film Festival, we certainly lucked out for the starlight screenings Friday & Saturday! ATFF - a weekend of adventure stories, campfire conversations and community, well worth the wait. I had the absolute honour of filming the event again this year, and it was good to see familiar faces after the 2 year gap, as well as meeting plenty of new ones. This event holds a special place, and has been a constant inspiration in my filmmaking journey. 🌱 From the early days of going with my dad, bright eyed and overwhelmed with inspiration, to now, well, still the above, but being able to give back and help contribute in a small way. The crowd it brings together truly feels like a community that celebrates the curiosity and the process of ‘giving it a go’, regardless of the outcome. I’m grateful for all of the encouragement, support & mentorship that has come from it over the years, and to all the sparks that conversations have led from. In essence, the takeaway learned is to surround yourself with people who share your passions, whatever form that takes, and actively root for others on their journey, it’s incredible what dreamers can achieve when they find their people. An evening with a curious fox 🌿 One thing I noticed more living in a town during the lockdowns is that with the quieter evenings we’re seeing more urban red foxes bravely exploring in the open. It’s always a magic moment to see one out of the corner of your eye! This vixen in particular is a regular on one of our walking routes, it’s fascinating to watch as she goes on her evening patrol. (As you can see from the second video, at first they didn’t know I was there until coming a little too close!) It’s no secret that foxes are one of my favourite animals, so it’s an honour to be able to get so close. I will keep the location secret however for her safety. Did you know that urban foxes skulls are evolving in a different path to the traditional rural fox to better match their environment? It’s intriguing to read recent studies, well worth a google! Rock & Roll(ing water) in a cave along the coast of Tintagel in Cornwall After a busy few weeks, finally having a chance to go through some of the shots from our Cornwall adventures last month! I love the feeling of being in caves, and especially seeing the light that reflects along the wet surfaces from the world outside. This one in particular is dubbed as Merlin’s Cave, found beneath Tintagel Castle, and is part of Arthurian legend. Daydreaming - Peregrine Falcon Absolutely magic moment from the first day of our trip to Cornwall, walking along the cliffsides near Tintagel. Having just received some tough news over the phone and processing, an hour later whilst looking up at the birds flying overhead we heard some fluttering below us, only to find this stunning wild Peregrine Falcon stood metres away, keeping an eye on it’s surroundings. Having just switched camera systems, I didn’t have a telephoto lens, so I edged closer with a 28-70mm and to my amazement this feathered beauty glanced over and continued it’s business checking the thermals for a good few minutes before flying back to it’s nest. @mellerdramatic managed to get BTS for reference of how close we were! Feeling very fortunate for that moment, and the timing was profound - nature plays such a big part in healing 💚 The peregrine falcon is calm and calculated, but is incredibly fast when it needs to be. Such a lucky spot on our hike yesterday up to Belas Knap - a small group of Marsh Tits above head! It appears they were very busy searching for food & scouting out materials for their nests, and as the first video shows, not everything makes the cut! This was my first time seeing these, so an exciting moment! 🌿 @mellerdramatic & I left a few piles of birdseed around where they were as payment for modelling (albeit unknowingly!) - give more than you take 🙌 Feeling so ready for the lighter evenings of spring, every year I forget how much the darkness of winter takes it’s toll. Black sand mountains 🏔 Bizarre to think exactly a year ago today these were our views. Out on a filming assignment for Manfrotto in Iceland before the world locked down with the @stillmovingmedia team - on location with @dalecampbell_dop & @naohkee (and @joannahodson1 making the magic happen remotely!) My absolute highlight was seeing the dramatic volcanic beach rising up out of the icy-blue waters of the Atlantic Ocean. Walking on this ancient eruption site felt surreal and eerie, and something special to see from a bird’s perspective 🦉 Here are a few aerials I took during the trip, the first one I spent ages with so many attempts trying to capture the moment the sand formed into a mountain range, with the waves making up clouds! 🗻 Grateful to have been on the team for this one, it certainly left me hungry to return there one day! If You Feel Too Much by Jamie Tworkowski 📖 Posting incase someone needs it This book somehow found it’s way to me in 2015, through seeing someone post about it, and has been a companion since. I can’t help but admire how openly and honestly Jamie writes, this book covers many seasons & stories that make you feel human. I personally am quite a closed book, but i’ve come to peace with that. I mostly open up when I need to and that is something i’m working on. Grateful to have such a supportive network around me, and hope to be that for others. I recognise that honesty opens doors to honesty, and that if someone is willing to open up to you that is a true honour, never doubt it. This book helped show me that, reading it makes feel more ready to both do and receive the same. I hope all is well in your journey, although we’re apart, this is a chance to come closer than ever with those around you. Let’s use this as an opportunity to reach out and practice honesty, internally & to others. And I think in these times more than ever, we need to celebrate our humility, the fact that we are creatures of emotion & heart, and the distance that can truly take us when we use that energy positively & collectively. If you’re looking for a lighthouse in the form of words, I cannot recommend this book enough. I have read/listened to it 5 times now, each time taking something new from it.
